Today, 99,000 of us are working to help people live not just longer, but better, in the more than 150 countries we serve.       JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Staff Electrical Engineer to play a key role in our electrical engineering team and as part of Abbott's Mechanical Circulatory Support R&D group.  In this position, you will design and develop new products for our market-leading Ventricular-Assist devices. Impact this role will have on Abbott: Design and oversee implementation of PCBA- -level electronics for life-sustaining medical devices Select appropriate components and technologies Starting from high-level use cases and system requirements as input, author hardware requirement specifications, failure mode analysis, test protocols, test reports and detailed design documents Conduct design reviews to achieve team alignment Develop company's competitive edge and contribute to intellectual property where appropriate Troubleshoot and debug system level problems and isolate root causes Mentor and develop engineers and technicians Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott's marketplace success: Bachelor of Science in electrical/electronic engineering or related engineering field Command of analog circuit design and systems theory as it applies to signal acquisition and conditioning or electromechanical control systems A minimum of 8 years of relevant hardware design and development experience, including a minimum of 3 years direct experience in developing active medical devices following design controls Experience in other regulated industry (e.g. aerospace, automotive) will be considered Demonstrated ability to work throughout the product life cycle from developing new concepts to driving the design through transfer to manufacturing Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally Your preferred qualifications and education: MS/PhD preferred PCB layout skills (Altium preferred) and familiarity with latest manufacturing processes and limitations (IPC, SMTA) Familiar with IEC 60601-1 basic electrical safety compliance and IEC 60601-1-2 EMC. Experience working with Class III Implantable Medical Devices Knowledge of embedded software development or programmable logic is desirable Training and experience in manufacturing processes and methods, especially in the manufacturing of medical devices and/or high-reliability devices 30902526
