Reporting to the Prevention Coordinator the Prevention Specialist provides and
ensures quality school and community-based prevention education and
intervention services to high-risk youth and their families. The position
provides prevention education using Positive Actions and other evidence-based
practices, crisis intervention and referrals to at-risk youth, their families,
and school personnel. They will assist in the coordination and implementation
of behavioral health and prevention services, working with schools, community
groups, and other agencies. Conduct crisis intervention, substance abuse
screenings, assessments, or referrals when needed. Collaborate with school
personnel to develop strategies addressing behavioral health and prevention and
address alternative educational and behavioral placement opportunities for
students. Present, facilitate and co-facilitate various groups, individual,
family, and public education presentations. Coordinates and facilitates
activities which include meals, snacks, field trips, arts & crafts projects
and sports activities in support of effective and quality program delivery.

Degree or higher in education, social work or related field or equivalent
+ Bilingual
Spanish Preferred
+ Two
years? experience working with youth in chemical dependency prevention,
intervention, or treatment field required.
+ Ability
and willingness to report to work on time and ready for work on each scheduled
+ Ability
to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with appropriate
documentation skills to complete reports, utilize data and communicate ideas
+ Ability
to establish and consistently enforce appropriate boundaries with
client/patients of Phoenix House
+ Strong
crisis management, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills.
+ Must
show an aptitude for service and for working as part of a team
+ Computer
literacy demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based
+ Must maintain a valid CA Drivers? License, have proof of automobile
insurance and maintain a safe driving record based on Phoenix House policy

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
