We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Tool & Die Maker, for our 3rd shift. This key position will be based in our new manufacturing operations located in Sylmar, CA, reporting to the Tool Room Manager. Must have own tools.
Job Summary:
Provide support for manufacturing by designing, making and repairing tools. Assist engineering and maintenance by making prototypes, or equipment repair parts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
Daily check with supervisor for incoming work such as broken dies; continue with pending assignments as priority allows.
Design die from engineering drawings, sketches or verbal direction
Set up and operate conventional or CNC equipment to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
Operation of all tool room equipment to make and repair dies.
Assist with prototypes from engineering department.
Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat treatment properties
Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies
Weld, measure, heat treat, etc.
Key Competencies:
Knowledge of precision measuring tools, layout tools, hand & bench tools, metallurgy and heat treatment, advanced mathematics I.E. Geometry and Trigonometry
Experience with engine lathes, mill machines, jig bore, surface grinders, and press operation.
Blue Print reading and familiarity with MasterCam, AutoCAD and Solid Works is essential.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
High School graduate. One-year certificate in machine shop practice from a college or technical school (Machinist certificate); or equivalent.
Experience:
Requires 4 years of experience in Tool & Die shop environment after completion of an apprenticeship program. Knowledge of Jig and Fixture building, progressive dies and some CNC programing is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
One-year certificate in machine shop practice from a college or technical school (Machinist certificate); or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
(Computer skills, mathematical abilities, analytical or reasoning abilities, communication skills, other technical skills, etc.)
Requires:
Basic skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer. Basic shop math, Trigonometry
Experienced in Auto Cad, Solid Works and MasterCam design programs
Able to program HAAS CNC mill
Able to work from verbal direction, sketches and Tool Designs with minimal direction

May require frequent travel between local (within 50 miles) facilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
