Job Title: Accountant
FLSA Status: Salaried Exempt/Fulltime
Location: Sylmar, CA
Department: Finance
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
Position Summary:
The Accountant role is an essential member of the finance team whose main responsibilities relate to the preparation and reporting of accurate and complete financial statements, with a focus on the Sylmar operations. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accountant is heavily involved in month end close, maintaining accurate inventory costs and analyzing operation results for opportunities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Month End Close responsibilities include: Preparation and posting of accurate and appropriate journal entries. Maintains the general ledger records in accurate condition and in accordance with GAAP regulations and Dover Guidelines
Provide meaningful and accurate reports to management to drive decision-making. Includes valuable and insightful commentary that furthers management understanding of the underlying issues and desired next steps. Manipulate system-generated reports beyond raw unformatted data and independently verify data for reasonableness and accuracy before distributing.
Provide complete account analysis and transaction research upon request
Responsible for assisting in the year-end audit process through the preparation of audit schedules, account analysis and providing explanations to auditor requests
Responsible for Sylmar's fixed assists, CIP, prepaid and other balance sheet accounts.
Other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
2+ years of experience directly related to the responsibilities outlined above.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong computer skills; must be an experienced user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and capable of learning other personal computer applications (AS400 a plus).
Employee must have knowledge of modern accounting theory, principles and practices and must understand the necessity for maintaining adequate accounting internal controls.
Employee must be capable of reading, writing, and speaking the English language effectively.
Ability to work independently
Ability to analyze and provide recommendation based on analytics
Advanced Excel skills
Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external customers

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
