Design Engineer 1 (Temp)

Design Engineer I Jurisdiction Classification Group, Esterline Control Systems
Employee shall have the experience and ability to perform a wide variety of mechanical/electromechanical engineering assignments at an intermediate degree of complexity with minimal direction from Engineering Manager. These skills will allow employee to perform the necessary analysis for Jurisdiction Classification. Employee shall have some latitude for independent action and decision.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform Jurisdiction and Classification analysis.
Research legacy program data for Jurisdiction and Classification determination.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, documents, and Mil Standards.
Organize historical data to logically determine Jurisdiction and Classification.
Interface with Product Life Management and ERP Systems to process and store Jurisdiction and Classification determinations.
Interface with engineering to determine/validate product classifications.
Assist in the continuous improvement of export compliance engineering processes and procedures.
Review and interpret government regulations and changes to those regulations.
Performs product development activities including solid modeling layout and interpretation/implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
Monitors and maintains product development schedules.
Participates in customer technical interface meetings to refine specification requirements, design goals, and schedules.
Participates in Concurrent Product Development (CPD) meetings.
Works with Test Engineer to define testing requirements for product.
Works with limited guidance on complex engineering activities including mechanical/electromechanical design studies and cost analysis.
Assists in the development and maintenance of design standards.
Coordinates mechanical/electromechanical design with responsible Design Engineer or Project Engineer.
Applies Design For Manufacturing (DFM) techniques to product design
Reviews designs with manufacturing to ensure product is manufacturable.
Qualifications
Experience with designing and analyzing multi-part mechanisms and mechanical/electromechanical assemblies.
Proven engineering experience in design and/or manufacturing of panels and control systems for the cockpits of airplanes, helicopters or military ground vehicles is a plus.
Attention to detail, tolerance, accuracy and speed of execution.
Designing for Manufacturability.
Metal and plastic part design and fabrication experience, especially investment cast aluminum is a plus.
Significant breadth within materials science is a plus.
Experience with, and understanding of, military, aerospace and industry specifications is a plus.
High-end CAD experience, preferably with Solidworks.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with customers, vendors, and factory personnel.
Advanced CAD/CAE experience, i.e. advanced surfacing, FEA is a plus.
Experience with tool design and fabrication is a plus.
Rapid Prototyping experience a plus.
Experience in a Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering environment.
Basic understanding of cost accounting.
Familiarity with Industry Drafting Standards.
